    straywild

    As of version 0.19.0 NETfishing is now straywild.

    Why the change?

    There are a bunch of factors that lead to us deciding to rebrand the game. One early decision that was made was to try to distance oursleves a bit from webfishing. Obviously our game takes quite a bit of influence from webfishings overall aesthetic but as straywild continues to be developed we are adding more and more that continue to set the game apart from it's spiritual predecessor. We want straywild to stand on it's own two feet and not on the shoulders of a now defunct game with a dicey past. We hope the namechange will instill some confidence that our team is here for the long haul and ready to build a game that is capable of representing itself and offering new ideas and focusing a new vision for what a social activity game like this can be and do.

    Stemming from this, we also felt NETfishing was too specific and granular in it's naming. As we've been talking to the community so many great ideas for new gameplay elements, mini games and other activities have been suggested or thought up. We don't think it's fair to the game to pin it to fishing when that's just the very first of many many things we'd like to see brought to life in our virtual world. straywild lets us expand the game in new and interesting ways as we move forward without the titular anchor.

    At the end of the day straywild is a game about being silly with your friends. For free. Where ever you can play games. What you're doing with that time should vary and stay interesting and fresh and fun. straywild fits the bill well for this purpose and captures the spirit of what we're trying to accomplish.

    Keep an eye out for changing links and such as we move the branding over. This may effect things like our Steam release as we may have to resubmit for review or jump through other hoops go get the rebranding to stick on various platforms.

    We hope you like the change and see our vision for the future of the game.

    This time I mean it, no more updates till September. I love you all, see you next week.

    TERRAIN
    this patch repairs generated terrain seams, tree collision placement, water recovery, movement reconciliation, and logbook scrolling. it also prevents clams from spawning on grass (I THINK) and adds sell-all staging to the shop.

    HOP SKIP JUMP
    v0.18.0-alpha expands the active fish catalog with new creature artwork, improves logbook portraits and catch-quality presentation, and continues generated-world development with better rivers, terrain projection, tree placement, beetle spawning, clam placement, and rain occlusion. this release also fixes portable data-folder reselection, fishing and chat input conflicts, remote animation playback, and several visibility and control-label issues.

    this will be the last update this month. we've got some great new things in the work which you will see starting in september! hope you're excited - I know I am. see you then!

    HELPING FRIENDS MOVE
    this hotfix reduces movement rubberbanding and unnecessary server movement traffic, improves online and friend controls, repairs controller navigation on the title screen, simplifies player and moderation information, and improves the save-slot action layout.

    this update adds named save slots with import, export, duplication, and world selection, along with live friend requests, online status, room invitations, and consistent blocking controls. multiplayer now uses protocol v10 with improved movement reconciliation, animation and fishing synchronization, late-join recovery, and reduced server and network load. it also improves generated-world startup and terrain behavior, preserves per-species catch totals, makes fishing prompts work around unfinished chat messages, adds configurable scroll behavior and remapped interaction prompts, and includes additional menu, controller, and interface fixes.

    CRY ME A RIVER
    generated islands now include larger lakes, complete rivers with cliff sources, bends, and ocean outlets, expanded elevation, coastal cliffs, denser forests, and more varied freshwater terrain. this update also corrects terrain texture sampling, makes title and pause menus respond faster, stabilizes camera and fishing input around radial menus and showcases, keeps fishnet and online layouts within their panels, and fixes profile name fields losing focus while typing.

    this release expands generated islands with freshwater habitats, denser forests, more elevation, beaches, and closed coastal cliffs. the art kit can now export artwork as png files, reuse saved work with the unlockable stamp tool, and provide better artwork moderation. kat and kim voice sets are restored, the calendar now shows your fishcoin balance, and camera dragging, tab input, fishing, chat, fishnet layouts, portmaster startup, and generated-world casting have all received fixes.

    GENERATOR
    v0.14.0-alpha adds seed-based generated islands as an alternative to the starter island. generated worlds now include beaches, streams, layered cliffs, coast, plains, forest, and pine forest biomes, along with biome-aware trees, docks, bridges, logs, mushrooms, and other props. hosts and dedicated servers author the selected layout and seed for everyone in the room, and dedicated servers always use generated terrain. this release also adds save import and export tools, private-by-default dedicated chat history, new music, and fixes across fishing, inventory, save data, controls, and multiplayer world setup.
